[A] Nulllabor – Biological Systems and Behavioural Patterns

Everywhere in nature we can find different processes that make visible how certain things work in the world. No matter where, on land, in the air or in the water, there are similar behaviours. Some are so small that it is impossible for us to observe or understand them at first glance. Here the concept of “biodesign”, a design branch in which designers and scientists work together, plays a very important role.

Based on this approach, a number of questions have been raised: what can we as designers observe that science can’t? What can we as designers do to encourage scientists to do more research on this concept?

Nulllabor is a collection of experiments designed to visually explain different processes and behaviours in nature and to inspire future generations of bio-designers.

This collection of experiments is divided in three main chapters - Process, Form and Ecosystem. This three chapters represent the aspects that are always present in nature. Inside the book you can also find different self-generated QR Codes which lead to an Augmented Reality projection of some of the experiments. For our final presentation we decided to present the catalogue with an organic-formed book stand. This was made with building foam and then painted with spray.
